Pier Paolo Pasolini: Death by Predicting the Lolita Express?
In today’s digital age, the spread of information has been unstoppable whether it’s fake news, propaganda, weather updates, or anything else. But there is one aspect that has changed since the times of the radio: sensitization. With the amount of mass media available, there is a fair share of content that you may find on the internet that cannot be advisable to indulge in. There is so much content on the dark web, much of it gory content that has made people insensitive.
However, there was one movie, more than four decades ago, that makes today’s gore look like cat videos. I’m referring to a film called Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom. Directed by Italian playwright/director Pier Paolo Pasolini, the movie had a lasting impact on his life — or rather, ended his life.
Pier was a communist in Italy. Despite the death of Benito Mussolini towards the end of the Second World War, he remained a popular figure. Many communists identify Italy as the cradle of fascism, even before the Nazi party. A communist living in a fascist state is never an easy thing, but the movie Salò wasn’t going to be let off easily by people opposing Pier’s ideology.
He was murdered brutally on 2nd November 1975. He had been run over multiple times…
