Understanding India’s Hatred Towards Muslims and Islam

InIn May of 2019 right before the Indian general elections, TIME Magazine published an article that called Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi as the divider-in-chief. British writer Aatish Tasheer wrote the piece explaining how the prime minister was destroying the foundations of secularism upon which India was born.

The Western media and dissenting Indian media have called his actions, a politics of Hindutva Extremismand a few others have made stronger accusations and written scholarly papers on why they are nothing short of terrorists.

But contrary to what most people and the Western media might say, the hatred against Muslims and Islam wasn’t born after PM Modi came to power. The hatred has always been there. The only difference being is that the politics around the issue became more relevant in the past 9 years.
